    Naples

A bus ride lasting roughly 60 minutes and you will be in Naples, a place that has retained all its charm. When you walk around the alleys of the historic centre, it is like going back to the times when Parthenope was ruled by the Angioini and the Aragonesi families. You walk from piazza del Gesù to piazza San Domenico until you reach San Gregorio Armeno, the Nativity street: here is Spaccanapoli, a meeting place between sacred and profane. Churches, stalls, trattorias and the classic take away pizza that you can eat while you are on the go: this is what Naples is all about.

Impossible to forget the Duomo of Naples, or the extraordinary Cappella San Severo where you can find one of the most remarkable Italian masterpieces: the Cristo Velato (Veiled Christ), a sculpture made by Giuseppe Sanmartino representing the body of Christ after the deposition.

In the historic centre, you can also visit the Cloister of Santa Chiara, a majolica masterpiece that leaves its visitors speechless.
Naples is a wonderful city because of its works of art and panoramic views (from Castel dell’Ovo you can enjoy spectacular views of the Gulf of Naples) but it is above all the gastronomic capital of Campania.

One tip: go and see the ancient Tribunali Street. You are bound to find a great pizza there.

    Discovering Naples

One of the itineraries to discover Naples is the one crossing the ancient decumani (East-West oriented roads in Roman cities). This itinerary includes piazza del Gesù, the churches of Santa Chiara, San Domenico Maggiore, Gesù Nuovo and San Lorenzo. Amongst the most remarkable sights in this itinerary, we recommend the Cappella San Severo and via San Biagio dei Librai.

Another itinerary takes you from via Toledo to the Royal Palace of Naples, through the Church of San Francesco da Paola, the Theatre San Carlo in the Galleria Umberto and the Maschio Angioino (Angevin keep). Finally, a stroll on one of the most beautiful seaside promenades in Italy, with views on Castel dell’Ovo.

    Trip to Caserta

Near Naples, you will find one of the most admired palaces in Italy: the Royal Palace of Caserta. It would take you days to visit this stunning palace located in the homonymous town but the tour continues with the discovery of the Casertavecchia and San Leucio hamlets.  Here you will find a Living Silk Museum and the Belvedere monumental complex.

One more reason to visit Caserta: in the medieval fortress of Casertavecchia, you can attend a performance of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The court becomes a theatre where actors move between the stage and the audience, who also takes part in the performance.

    Pompeii and Herculaneum

The places that testify to the ancient splendour of Campania in Roman times.  Both Pompeii and Herculaneum were victims of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius: in 79 AD, the volcano destroyed the two cities. It buried them both. Thanks to the excavations carried out under the Bourbons, they were brought back to light after centuries and today they represent one of the most fascinating sights in the world.

Walking on the ancient streets of Pompeii and Herculaneum is like stepping back into time. You can visit Patrician villas, homes, squares, the Forum and public areas. Pompeii was a flourishing city of commerce thanks to the oil and wine export, while Herculaneum enjoyed a good position by the sea: we advise you to visit them both and without hurry.
